The Music of Painting

The Striped Blouse, Edouard Vuillard

"Who speaks of art speaks of poetry. There is no art without a poetic aim. There is a species of emotion particular to painting. There is an effect that results from a certain arrangement of colors, of lights, of shadows, etc. It is this that one calls the music of painting."--Vuillard, Jan. 1894

  1. What a coincidence! I'm just reading a book about Vuillard... and expecting to see YOUR paintings on your blog... here's one that "sure looks like that Vuillard guy!!"
    Re: State of the Union.
If all of us (of all political stripes) can stay calmer a little longer and more deeply thoughtful even when confronted by opposition, we will be better off. How wonderful, imho, to have a president who is also a role model.
Of course it would be nice to eliminate the deficit, get health care up and running, and stop spending blood and money on war, too.
